Reminder to save the date: Saturday, June 11, for Sewn In Memory- local AIDS Quilt Panels and the local response to AIDS at Spurlock Museum. Time change: 1:30 to 3 pm. This program serves as the LGBTQ Welcome Team education event for 2022.

The first part of the program will include Jerry Carden, as the founding chair of the Gay Community AIDS Project in 1985; Julie Pryde, Administrator of the CU Public Health District; and Mike Benner, the current Executive Director of GCAP.

We’ll share some history of the local gay community in our response to the AIDS pandemic, the mobilization of public health- especially focusing on how Julie Pryde got her feet wet in public health practice, and what are the current local challenges with HIV/AIDS. You’ll also see a few oral histories produced by our own Kim Kranich, as part of her work with Illinois Public Media. This program is jointly sponsored with UUCUC’s Religious Education and Exploration Team. This program will also serve to help satisfy part of the UUA’s Welcoming Congregation Renewal program which we apply for each year. You can help us achieve our goal just by attending.
