We have worked on transforming existing Church structures while we brought in programs to build our capacity for community engagement. This year saw changes in the Social Action Committee that are helping it become an engine to turn our congregation’s passions into action. We are also working closely with the strategic visioning and interim religious education task forces to build a future where the Church is deeply engaged with our wider community. The “We Wanna Woke” choir provided a series of workshops for the congregation to learn chants and songs that will ready us to be a unified force to lift the spirit and amplify the message of protests as they are called in the future. Additionally, we have hosted two workshops led by Karen Simms to help build a broader understanding of trauma, trauma informed care, develop better practices for community engagement, build resiliency tools, positive youth justice and good practices for engaging with community violence.
