From Sandy Hannum
The CROP Hunger Walk on October 4 is an interfaith community-wide effort to fight hunger and poverty, both locally and globally. This year the walk will be virtual, but the need is very real!
CROP Walk will be raising money to help people whose lives have been devastated by COVID-19, locally and globally. Of the funds raised, 25% will stay local, and will go to the Daily Bread Soup Kitchen, the Eastern Illinois Food Bank, the Sola Gratia Farm, and the Wesley Food Pantry. The other 75% will go to projects in other parts of the world with the greatest needs. Funds are also being used to help in Hurricane Laura relief efforts.
I am gathering a team of people willing to help raise funds for this great cause. The UU Walkers team is registered on the CU CROP Hunger Walk website, and has already started working. All donations can be made in support of a particular walker, or the team, by going directly to the C-U CROP Hunger Walk website: https://www.crophungerwalk.org/champaignil. In this way we can bypass the need for envelopes, and handling checks or money. Our team can choose to take a masked, socially-distanced walk together on October 4, and so far, many are interested.
