The Day of Silence is celebrated on April 12 this year. It’s a student-led observance day to spread awareness about bullying and its effects on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students. The Day of Silence was originally created in the 1990s and almost 10,000 schools now participate. The event involves a day long vow of silence to symbolically protest the silencing of LGBTQ students.
The Day of Silence is organized by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, otherwise known as GLSEN. Will you and your school and/or family spend some time on April 12 in support of this protest? For more information: https://www.glsen.org/day-silence.
