Spring Themes for REE

We know the temperature is dropping, but in Religious Exploration & Engagement (REE) classes we are toasty warm as we continue to explore the principles, sources, and rituals of Unitarian Universalism!  This year, UUCUC has been using Soul Matters throughout the church and across age groups.

We introduce a new Soul Matters theme each month that is taught and explored in children and youth’s REE classes as well as in adult Soul Matters small groups. This level of continuity allows families a chance to have conversations and explore the theme throughout the month together, as they all hear similar messages in different formats.

On the first Sunday of the month, families attend services together for a special All-Ages service where the monthly theme is introduced.  On the following Sundays, REE volunteers use the Soul Matters religious education curriculum to create activities, share stories, and consider ways to help children and youth in their groups explore the topic and have fun too!

We look forward to future fun activities on the themes of:

  • March: The theme of the month is Vulnerability. A big part of vulnerability is being willing to take a risk. And one of the biggest and most vulnerable risks we take is friendship. We need to trust that they will respond in kind when we signal, we want to be friends. We need to trust that they will not hurt us once we’ve become friends. So come, let us leap into and explore the vulnerable ability to say, “I like you.”
  • April: This month, we will explore the challenges and paths of Resistance. Our hope and goal is for youth to become familiar with the various faiths and their holidays. We will explore different practices of resistance and think about how the path of resistance applies to our lives..
  • May: This month, we explore how Creativity expands our hearts and minds. We talk about the magical way that creativity transforms things, how it helps us include everyone, and different ways we can practice being original.

We all appreciate the consistent engagement and joy of the children and youth in the REE programs at UUCUC.  A special thank you to all families and REE volunteers for continuing to support and care for our youngest and young-er UUCUC-ers.
