Social Action is forming a social justice letter writing group to keep senators, representatives, and all other decision-makers aware of our opinions on important issues. We need to stay vigilant and keep reminding them of our views! If we don’t express ourselves, people in power will continue to get away with egregious acts. Public outcry makes a difference. We have seen the power of large groups of people marching. Large groups of people writing letters can also be very powerful, providing a physical record of written words.
Sandy Hannum, Pam Richart, and Jim Halle will work with the group to strategize on issues and procedures. We plan to meet by Zoom once per month, and choose an issue to write about. We will research and identify the main points we want to make in our letters. A sample letter will be provided as a guide, but people will write in their own style.
Issues that are at the forefront right now are 1) Policing and Racial Justice, and 2) Voting Rights and making voting work during the pandemic. We are also very interested in Immigration Policy, Gun Control, and the Environment.
If you commit to being a regular letter writer, we can deliver to your home part of our limited supply of stamps, paper, and envelopes. Please contact Sandy Hannum (smhannum@gmail.com) ASAP if you are interested in participating. We will start very soon!
