Surviving the End of the World

Anyone who has read “Lord of the Flies” knows that without the comfort and structures of society, humans will descend into vicious hierarchical tribes. Except… we might be surprised to learn how much stories like “Lord of the Flies” get wrong about how humans actually behave when the world falls apart around them. Inspired by Rebecca Solnit’s “A Paradise Built in Hell,” Rev. Sally will lead us in reflecting on the communal altruism and generosity that tend to actually define post-apocalyptic behavior, and what it might mean for those of us facing disasters of all kinds today. When things fall apart, who will we be in the aftermath?
