Our shared offering for September is NAACP of Champaign County
Founded in 1909, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is the largest and most recognized civil rights organization in the United States. NAACP works to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination.
The Champaign County Branch of NAACP provides programs and services to promote and enhance civil rights of all citizens, political empowerment, getting out the vote, the enactment and enforcement of civil rights laws, and educational excellence, economic development, and outreach. One prominent NAACP program, the Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO), is a year-long achievement program to stimulate and encourage high academic and cultural achievement among African-American high school students.
This year, the Champaign County Branch will host the NAACP Illinois State Convention from Sept. 26-29. A number of our church members will be attending the Freedom Fund banquet on September 28, which features keynote speaker Rev. Janette Wilson, Executive Director of Operation Push. Contact the Racial Justice Team if you would like to attend this banquet with other church members.
