Join Planned Parenthood Illinois Action at the 2024 Lobby Day in Springfield!
Help protect and expand reproductive and sexual health care by advocating for a slate of progressive legislation. From protecting abortion and gender-affirming care providers to securing funding for comprehensive sex education, we have lots to fight for in Springfield and we need your help!
You’ll learn from policy experts and advocates about the bills we’re supporting and the best tips to help get them passed. Then, you’ll take your new skills to the capitol, where you’ll lobby your elected officials like a pro!
Lobby Day is Wednesday, May 8, in Springfield. Your child or grandchild is welcome to accompany you to the state capital!
We will be advocating for several bills in the legislature.
One bill is for increasing state funding for reproductive and sexual health care.
Planned Parenthood and other reproductive health care providers rely on Illinois Family Planning Program grants to cover costs for patients receiving basic primary and preventive health care, such as wellness exams, lifesaving cancer screenings, contraception, and sexually transmitted infections testing and treatment. For the past two years, there has not been funding from the federal government to cover the costs of a family planning program. During that same timeframe, the family planning allocation in the state budget has stayed stagnant.
Another bill is for improving personal health, safety, and sex education for Illinois students.
In 2021, the Illinois General Assembly passed the Keeping Youth Safe and Healthy Act, establishing state learning standards for personal health and sex education. However, many schools lack the resources to implement the new standards. According to data from a 2023 Illinois State Board of Elections survey sent to every public school in Illinois, only 30% of schools currently teach any sort of sex education.
