Twenty persons gathered for a potluck and planning session on August 11th as we look forward to the September 30th Pride Fest Fair and Parade, sponsored by Uniting Pride of Champaign County. Based on the success of our booth at the Fair in downtown Urbana, we’ve requested a double-wide booth space- 10 X 20 instead of 10 X 10. A small group offered to plan for both the booth and the parade and a special email group created to compare notes. Let Julia know if you’d like to be added to the planning group email. Jerry will coordinate volunteer efforts which will include those who garner supplies and set up that day; another group will coordinate staffing.
We also look forward to planning and offering an educational opportunity for our members and friends relating to the ‘gay lexicon’ that has expanded beyond the L & G of Lesbian & Gay to include a few more letters and quite a bit of terminology which makes for a deeper understanding of people that don’t fit the cisgender heterosexual mold of yesteryear. We are partnering with Uniting Pride for this event as well. The program will help us meet this year’s education requirements of the UUA to maintain our Welcoming Congregation status.
LGBTQUU email address-
A reminder that we now have an LGBTQUU email address for keeping up with each other. The address is
intended not just for those who identify as LGBTQ+, but we also encourage allies. Allies started the process to become a Welcoming Congregation back in the mid-’90s. They are a very important part of making sure all queer folks feel welcomed within our walls and at our events. If you’d like your name added to the LGBTQUU@uucuc.org email list, contact Jerry Carden, Autumn Haskins, or Cate Calac, our Director of Congregational Administration.
