Hello members and friends of UUCUC. I am happy to be with you as a consulting minister for the next few months. I am honored by the welcome I have received by the staff, and I thoroughly enjoyed the worship service we shared a few weeks ago. Glenda and I loved singing with you, and Theodore Barker loved working with Rev. Florence. (For those not in attendance that day, Theodore is my puppet dog sidekick, but please don’t mention the puppet part in his presence) The spirit of this place is contagious, and I believe that UUCUC is an expression of the best Unitarian Universalism has to offer. We’re not perfect, but we’re working on it.
I hope the next few months will provide opportunities for us to get to know one another better as we provide some needed respite for your called minister, and explore the possibilities of an associate minister to better serve a growing congregation. The willingness to accept the challenges of growth is the best indicator of congregational health. In these times, our nation and world, needs people of faith and commitment to the ideals of democracy, equality, and service to the greater good. For far too long, Unitarian Universalism has often been the best-kept secret in town. Your commitment to social action, and the vitality of your services give witness to your desire to change that.
Just so you know, change requires change. There will be difficulties. We tell new members of our Bloomington, Indiana congregation that, “If you have not been disappointed yet, you need to get more involved.” Breathe deeply and relax, because the journey is not only worth it, but fun. Feel free to contact me if you have pastoral needs, or if you just want to talk. My email address is consulting-minister@uucuc.org and my schedule of when I’m on-site at UUCUC is currently posted. It will be an exciting spring, and I am happy to be a part of it with you.
Peace—Rev. Bill
Note: Rev. Breeden recently led the service on February 2nd, “Resilience—What’s Love Got to Do With It?.” The service was live streamed on our YouTube channel and the video is available here.
