How Do We Talk To Our Family in Times Like These?

On Saturday, January 16 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, Michele Grove, UUCUC’s interim director of religious education will host a structured discussion on how to talk to children and youth about the current events of 2021. In just a few short days, we have witnessed difficult national events and expect that we may see more in the upcoming days. This is compiled with the stress and complexity of political and social environment that has been a part of us for a while. The stress is building.

  • How to do we help our children and youth engage without taking on too much of the stress?
  • How do we balance the conversation about current events while also paying attention to our own emotional, mental and spiritual needs?

These are the questions we will discuss on Saturday. If you would like to join this program, email Michele Grove at re-director@uucuc.org and she will send you a link to the video conference.

The discussion will include an opening, some brief words of learning and centering to frame the conversation, and then a guided discussion. We may break into small groups based on the age of the children in your family. This is a different discussion for parents and caregivers of different ages -preschoolers, elementary-age children, middle high, and senior high youth.

If you have any questions, please call/text/email Michele Grove at 605-237-1319.

And look for further opportunities for discussions and programs like this one coming in February.
