The CU CROP Walk 2022 will be held on Sunday, October 2 at 2 pm! CROP stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty.
Right now the effects of COVID, climate change, and war have increased hunger and poverty dramatically. Horrendous natural disasters are occurring much more frequently all over the world. It is overwhelming and exhausting! But we are the fortunate ones, because we are in a position to help. We can’t do everything for everyone, but we can take small steps in the right direction, and provide some relief to some people. This is what CROP Walk is all about.
Our church has a team for the event, called the UU Walkers: Vevi and Richard Brannon, Becky Densmore, Karen Folk, Jennifer Greene, Jody Hanger, Sandy Hannum, Lynn Kelly, Todd Kinney, Nancy Parker, Peggy Patten, and Jean Peters. The UU Walkers will be gathering donations for this worthy cause, and joining in the walk.
Of the funds raised, 25% will go to four local groups: the Daily Bread Soup Kitchen, the Eastern Illinois Food Bank, Sola Gratia Farm, and the Wesley Food Pantry; 75% will go to other parts of the world, wherever the need is greatest.
If you would like to support this compassionate work, you can make a donation on behalf of the UU Walkers team or a particular walker at: https://events.crophungerwalk.org/2022/event/champaignil
The UU church has a tradition of embracing this event with great enthusiasm and generosity. We look forward to another year of the same. Thank you so much!
