The CU CROP Walk 2022 will be held on Sunday, October 2 at 2 pm. CROP stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty. It is a community-wide interfaith effort to fight hunger and poverty, and to relieve suffering from disasters.
Right now the effects of COVID, climate change, and war have increased hunger and poverty dramatically. Horrendous natural disasters are occurring much more frequently all over the world. It is overwhelming and exhausting! But we are the fortunate ones, because we are in a position to help. We can’t do everything for everyone, but we can take small steps in the right direction, and provide some relief to some people. This is what CROP Walk is all about.
Our church is forming a team, the UU Walkers, to collect donations and walk in the event. The walk will be a six mile loop, starting and ending at the First Presbyterian Church of Urbana. Walkers should be there by 1:30 pm. There is also a 3-mile option, or a non-walking option for team members.
Of the funds raised, 25% will go to four local groups: the Daily Bread Soup Kitchen, the Eastern Illinois Food Bank, Sola Gratia Farm, and the Wesley Food Pantry; 75% will go to other parts of the world, wherever the need is greatest.
Please consider joining the team! Contact Sandy Hannum (smhannum@gmail.com) or sign up online.
Support this great cause by making a donation at the above mentioned website. You may choose to support a particular walker, or the UU Walkers team as a whole.
The UU church has a tradition of embracing this event with great enthusiasm and generosity. We look forward to another year of the same. Thank you so much!
