A letter from Michele Grove, Interim Director of Religious Education
Dear Friends,
It is true that lifespan religious education will look different this fall. Yet, like every year, religious education programs only work when there is a solid team of leadership guiding, planning, creating and leading. Currently, a religious education think tank is looking at all aspects of religious education and discussing various options. Below is a list of the programs that seem to carry the most interest.
To make these happen, we need leadership teams. Are you interested in working with a small group of people to create, plan, promote and lead any of the following? If so, please send me an email and tell me about the areas where you have passion. I envision teams of 3-4 people working on various projects with some taking upfront leadership and some working on the ‘behind-the-scene’ details. And I plan on working with these teams to support, train, and ensure that all the bases are covered.
- A Storytelling YouTube Channel with stories told by UUCUC members and religious education leaders.
- Popcorn Theology. A multi-generational religious education program centered on movies and the themes that relate to Unitarian Universalism and current event. This would be a movie watching and discussion program.
- Sunday morning religious education materials. This group would look at Sunday morning worship services and create learning materials for children and youth that enhance the Sunday morning worship theme.
- Religious education adventures that bring together learning and connection to the UUCUC community. For example, can we create a learning scavenger hunt that goes to different members’ homes for clues?
- Religious Education in a box. Programs like COLLAGE which provide lessons and materials to do at home. The key to these programs is finding ways to connect those who are engaged in the program to provide a sense of community.
- Religious education pen pal program. Designed to learn something together and connect adults with children and youth for deeper friendships.
If any of these are of interest, please contact me at re-director@uucuc.org. Also, if you have other ideas, I would love to hear them. Thanks for all, I look forward to seeing what religious education adventures unfold this fall.
