From Rev. Florence Caplow
Dear Members and Friends of UUCUC,
I am overjoyed to announce that the Rev. Bill Breeden, Minister Emeritus from the Bloomington, Indiana UU Church, has agreed to “co-minister” with me from February to May this year. Some of you may have had the privilege of hearing him speak to us last spring, or you were able to attend his church growth workshop while he was here, so you know that he is a passionate, inspired, and deeply experienced minister and activist. By joining us for the spring he will give me some much-needed relief from the 60+ hour weeks I have needed to work in the last few months, and will also free up some of my time to focus on the shift we hope for next year, to a multi-minister staff. Because of his own experience in a vigorous, multi-minister church, he will be invaluable to us in this transition. We will all benefit from his experience and energy, and I suspect he will be able to attend and support our social justice groups in ways I have not been able to recently, as well as offer some opportunities for adult education while he is here. In general, we will be alternating weeks in the office from mid-February to mid-May. He will be available for pastoral care, leadership support, and committee support while he is here.
His first Sunday in the pulpit will be February 2nd, on Resilience, so I hope you can mark your calendars and plan to attend.
We need to find housing for him for the weeks he is with us. Do you have a comfortable room in your house, or a mother-in-law suite, that might be suitable? Most visits will be 4-6 nights. Due to some respiratory issues, Rev. Breeden needs a “fragrance free” space – i.e. a household where scented cleaning products or strong perfumes are not used. Rev. Breeden is an inspiring person, and this is a great opportunity to get to know a very special UU minister. If you would like more information, or have a space you think might work, please contact me at minister@uucuc.org.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
