The early 20th century radical Emma Goldman famously said, “A revolution without dancing is not a revolution worth having.” A more contemporary writer, Adrienne Maree Brown, coined the term, “pleasure activism” and she asks us these questions: “How do we make social justice the most pleasurable human experience? How can we awaken within ourselves desires that make it impossible to settle for anything less than a fulfilling life?” In this service, let’s celebrate the sacred side of joy and play, even (or maybe especially) when times are hard. Celebration is a radical act. This is also the first day of the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashana. We will celebrate “everyone’s birthday” during Fellowship Hour.
