WHEN AND WHERE TO GATHER
We are the 52nd entry out of over 70. We gather north of downtown Champaign at Washington, between Walnut and Hickory streets. A few other groups are gathering in that block, so look for us. We start walking at 3 pm. Some people will be gathering around 2 pm, but do try to be there at least by 2:30 or 2:45 so we can teach any songs or chants. The We Wanna Woke choir is joining us and I’m sure they’ll have some ideas. For details on the gathering spot AND for the parade route CLICK HERE. Allow time to find parking, and remember that some streets will already be blocked off.
FACE PAINTING FOR UUCUC PARTICIPANTS
“Want to look extra festive for the parade? Jenna Zeidler and others will be doing Rainbow Face Painting for UUCUC persons marching in the parade. We will have a shade canopy set up in the large city parking lot at Washington and Walnut, come see us starting at 2pm to get colorful!” Thanks to Jenna Zeidler, Jenny Lokshin and others in that group!
PRE-PARADE LUNCH
AJ Herzog, and Renée Trilling have set up a pre-parade luncheon at Pizzeria Antica at 1:00 p.m. for those that are interested. It’s not necessary to attend the luncheon in order to walk with us in the parade.
ADDENDUM
Some rules for the parade participants- we can not throw or use anything that will be a cleanup problem for the Champaign street crews. That includes candy, spray string, confetti, glitter, etc. If we have candy it has to be handed directly to an onlooker- NEVER just tossed. We are liable for fines from the city if we misbehave! During the event please walk quickly and stay together so the parade doesn’t drag. We’ll have a church banner and some extra Pride flags for a few people to carry.
