Free Pantry Moving to UUCUC – Volunteers and Donations Needed

The UUCUC Social Action Committee is excited to announce the arrival of a Little Free Pantry at our Green Street building. Since March 2020, UUCUC members Julie Laut (Urbana) and the Herzog Family (Champaign) have stewarded free food pantries at their homes. The Urbana pantry – the physical structure and storage shelves – was transferred to UUCUC on Monday of this week and will sit proudly on the corner of Green and Birch. This is a community effort, and we need your help to keep the project healthy!

First, we are looking for volunteers willing to be on the team in charge of maintaining the pantry (i.e. stocking, organizing donations, soliciting new supplies, etc.). Contact UUCUC Board Member Penne Beckett (penne.beckett(at)uucuc.org) if you’d like to help. Second, bring your donations of non-perishable food items and personal care products to the church on Sunday mornings. This Amazon wishlist provides guidance regarding what is needed most urgently. Amazon donations will continue to be split between the Urbana and Champaign pantries. Feel free to contact Pat Nolan (pnolan96(at)aol.com) with any questions.

Food insecurity remains endemic in Champaign County, and we are excited to continue to support this project!
