The Y is excited to announce the Friday Forum + Conversation Cafe Spring 2022 series! Building on the success of last fall, which saw over 700 attendees in person and online, the Spring series will continue its look at the legacies and intersection of racism in our communities. How can we nurture our commitment to faith and radical hope in the face of racism, grief, and loss? How can we cultivate a community grounded in restorative justice, liberatory education, and racial equity? How can we find power and resilience through radical printmaking, documentary fiction and authentic storytelling? We will hear responses to these questions from community leaders, scholars, creatives, and leading voices in the fight for racial and social justice.

This series will kick-off Friday, February 4, at 12 noon in Latzer Hall, with Art @ the Y: Radical Printmaking, presented by Professor William Estrada of the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Following lectures will continue each Friday through April 8, and include talks from:
  • Sesali Bowen, acclaimed activist and author of Bad Fat Black Girl: Notes From A Trap Feminist
  • Marlon Mitchell & Crushion Stubbs, of First Followers Re-Entry Program
  • Minnie Pearson & Thom Moore, of the NAACP – Champaign County
These and other lectures throughout the semester will feature talks from local and national experts in their field, on topics ranging from gentrification, to incarceration, to racism in our local schools.
Please feel free to call me at (217) 337-1500, or email Ann Rasmus or myself if you have any questions or would like additional information on the lectures or speakers or visit: universityymca.org/friday-forum.
