Congregational Support for Rev. Florence Caplow

The news of Rev. Florence’s health challenges and time of leave has left many of us with a heavy heart and wondering “How can I help?”. We thought it would be helpful to provide some ideas on things we can do to help Florence feel supported in ways that also honor her privacy and give her the rest she needs during her time away from church duties. See if there is an option here that feels like a good fit for you. If none of these speak to you, fear not! There will likely be more to come down the road.


Donate Books
Florence loves reading and would very much enjoy receiving books that you are willing to part with. We have a tub labeled for book collection outside the church, by the Green Street entrance (North side), tucked behind the mailbox. Please deposit donations to Florence’s reading program there, and they will be delivered to Florence by church staff. Please, only provide books you are willing to permanently part with, as there will be no returns to keep things easier. When done, Florence will pass on books to Free Little Libraries and Books for Prisoners. Here is a list of her preferred, and not so preferred, genres to help guide your donation choices.

Yes Please! Genres:

  • Well written novels (she adores beautiful writing!)
  • Comedic novels
  • Fantasy and Science Fiction, including YA
  • Essays or Short Story Collections
  • Non-fiction about the Natural World
  • Gardening Books

No Thank you Genres:

  • No Thrillers
  • No Murder Mysteries
  • No Romances
  • No “Serious” Political Science or Historical Non-Fiction

Florence has felt so supported by receiving cards expressing your well wishes. Let’s keep them coming! Please send cards to the church address: Rev. Florence Caplow, 309 West Green Street, Urbana, Illinois 61801. Cards will be delivered to Florence by church staff.


Organic Fruit and Vegetable Delivery:

Florence’s Kudoboard is still active, and this is fun, paperless way to send her well wishes. You can add to the board here.


Movie Recommendations
Do you have movie ideas that you think Florence would enjoy? If so, please write them on a card and send them to her at the church: Rev. Florence Caplow, 309 West Green Street, Urbana, Illinois 61801. Please write on the back of the envelope or on the postcard “Movie Recommendation”. These will be delivered to Florence by church staff.
