In the spring of 2019, Tania Madigral and Amber Schultz began a UUCUC Navigator Troop in an effort to open up scouting to children and youth of all genders. The troop has continued to thrive during the pandemic and is always open to new members. Recently, Navigators have earned their Hiking and Minecraft badge (sounds like fun, yes?). If you would like to learn more about how to be involved, you are welcome to contact Tania or Amber. They are always happy to provide you with enrollment information.
Below is the letter Tania wrote in the summer of 2019 when the troop began. It has valuable information for anyone who wants to learn more.
Letter from Tania:
Dear UUCUC,
My name is Tania Madrigal and I’m looking to starting a Navigators USA Scouting chapter here in Champaign-Urbana and sponsored by UUCUC. Navigators are a secular, social-justice oriented and multigenerational scouting organization that is an alternative to traditional scouting. The Navigators’ Moral Compass (i.e. pledge) is very aligned with UU values and principles. We are hoping to gauge interest and see if families would be interested. We are hoping to have an informational meeting within the next month or two.
If you are interested, please watch for further details and check out https://navigatorsusa.org/. Navigators USA also has a Facebook page.
