The CROP Hunger Walk is an interfaith community-wide effort to fight hunger and poverty, both locally and globally. It will be totally different this year because of the pandemic. There will be no large group of people walking together. On October 4 There will be a virtual sendoff for any teams who would like to take a masked, socially distanced walk together. This year CROP Walk will be raising money for COVID-19 relief, locally and globally. Of the funds raised, 25% will stay local, and will go to the Daily Bread Soup Kitchen, the Eastern Illinois Food Bank, the Sola Gratia Farm, and the Wesley Food Pantry. The other 75% will go to projects in other parts of the world with the greatest needs.
I am gathering a team of people willing to help raise funds for this great cause. The UU Walkers team is already registered on the CU CROP Hunger Walk website. All donations can be made in support of a particular walker, or the team, by going directly to the C-U CROP Hunger Walk website: https://www.crophungerwalk.org/champaignil In this way we can bypass the need for envelopes, and handling checks or money. Our team can decide whether to take a walk together on October 4.
