The
2011-2012 Stewardship Committee members are Sam Beshers (chair), Cathy
Cunningham, Karen Folk, Claudia Gross, David Gross, Brian McDermott, and Board
Liaison Roch Ducey.
Stewardship
is a key part of our church. The original meaning of “steward” is someone who
manages a household, estate, or finances.
It has the connotation of a caretaker, a responsible person who is
entrusted with the welfare and security of others. We have, fortunately, many stewards – members
and friends who not only contribute to the church, but who watch over it, alert
to what is needed.
We will
collect pledges in the spring of 2012, starting with a kickoff event on the
evening of February 11, and continuing with a sermon on stewardship by the Rev.
Axel Gehrmann on Sunday February 12, and a series of cottage meetings in which
members and friends will discuss the present and future of the church.
This year
the Stewardship Committee is partnering with the Strategic Plan Task Force and
using a method called “Appreciative Inquiry”, or AI, to generate discussions
that will be both more meaningful and more enjoyable. The essence of AI is, instead of looking for
problems that need to be fixed, to ask what we are doing well so that we can do
more of it and do it better.
We will be
publicizing our events more starting early in 2012. And if you have questions or ideas, we’d love
to hear from you.
